Purchase Of Alaska
This cartoon is about the Purchase of Alaska. It shows that William Seward and Andrew Johnson are wheeling a big block of ice labeled Russian America. The cartoonist's message on this issue is negative. It shows that in the background a russian man is walking away with a sack with $7 million. At that time people had negative opinions about Alaska's purchase because it was just a big block of ice. It was later disproven when they discovered gold, timber, and oil. One of the techniques used by the cartoonist id labeling because the block of ice is labeled Russian america and the man is carrying a sack of money labeled $7 million. Symbolism because Alaska is looking so small and looks like a ice block. Yes this cartoon does support my position on Imperialism because this cartoon shows the Purchase of Alaska is negative and I agree. Just because you are powerful enough to buy a territory from another country doesn't mean you should.
